INKUBATIONSTID: 3–21 dagar.
Inkubationsperioden är vanligtvis 3–7 dagar, men kan vara längre. De kliniska symtomen varierar beroende på vilken virusstam som infekterat djuren, men även skötsel och miljöfaktorer kan ha betydelse. De kliniska symtom som uppträder kan grovt indelas i fyra former (se beskrivning under varje rubrik). Inom en besättning kan dock flera former förekomma samtidigt. Infektionen kan även ha ett subkliniskt förlopp.
